How We Can Help
Family Members
We understand that no one knows your loved one better than you do. That is why we value your input and participation in the care of your family member.
You can count on us to work with medical providers in providing personalized care for your relative or friend. We can help him/her cope with the changes that may occur while he/she transitions to living in a long-term care community.
Our team offers psychiatric services—including medication management and psychotherapy—and memory care services. Some of the most common diagnoses we help treat are:
SHAE clinicians have extensive experience managing a multitude of mental health disorders. Clinicians are trained in managing disorders such as dementia, anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, mood swings, trauma, psychosis and other mental and behavioral health disorders. This experience includes knowledge of drug interactions, risks and side effects and potential benefits of use. The treatment philosophy at SHAE includes the recognition that medications aren't necessarily the first line of treatment for everybody and several treatment modalities should be considered in the decision of what is the best treatment for an individual. SHAE clinicians will partner with the patient in addition to families, facility staff, psychotherapists and other caregivers in determining the best possible treatment options.
Dementia describes a group of disorders associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person's ability to perform everyday activities. Dementia is the general category that describes a number of more specific classes of dementia such as Alzheimer's dementia, Lewy Body dementia, Parkinson's dementia, Vascular dementia and others. People with dementia have impairments in memory, communication and speech, focus and concentration, reasoning and judgment and visual perceptions.

Anxiety disorders are emotional disturbances characterized by excessive worry, fear or agitation that is strong enough to interfere with functioning. There are many types of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and others.
Psychotic disorders are emotional disturbances characterized by disconnection from reality. Examples of psychosis include hallucinations and delusions. People with psychosis lose touch with what is real and what is not which can lead to abnormal behaviors, significant emotional distress and agitation. Psychosis is a symptom in many other illnesses such as mood disorders, dementia, substance use disorders and other mental health disorders. It is primary symptoms of schizophrenia disorders.
Long-Term Care Communities
Our clinicians conduct educational lunch seminars for the staff of long-term care communities. This allows the latter to earn continuing education unit (CEU) credits, and we do not charge the patients and their families for these.
